DESCRIPTION:The Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance of the University of Luxembourg (FDEF) and the Luxembourg Sustainable Finance Initiative (LSFI) are pleased to invite you on Tuesday, 24th January, from 12:30 to 14:00 (CET) to their online event « Strategies & Best Practices for an Effective Investor Engagement« .\nInvestor engagement on ESG matters can be put into practice through different forms such as proxy voting or board participation, but how do these actually work and what are some of its best practices? This webinar will include industry experts who will expose some best practices and examples and will explore which strategies can be followed in order to achieve an effective investor engagement.\nRegister here ( https://www.eventbrite.com/e/strategies-best-practices-for-an-effective-investor-engagement-tickets-504287015037 )\nSpeakers:\nClara Melot, Stewardship Specialist at Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI)\nClara Melot joined the PRI’s stewardship team in January 2022, where she focusses on supporting collaborative stewardship practices. Prior to joining the PRI, she spent 5 years at ZSL, an environmental conservation organisation, leading its engagement with the financial sector on ESG issues linked to soft-commodity production. With prior experience gained within the WWF-France’s corporate partnerships department and ClientEarth’s Climate and Forest team, her work has always involved outcomes-driven collaboration with financial sector, corporate, NGO and academia partners. Clara has an MRes in Information and Communication Science from La Sorbonne University and an MSc in Environmental Policy and Regulation from the London School of Economics.\nHans-Christoph Hirt, Managing Director and Head of Impact Engagement at UBS Asset Management\nIn his role as Managing Director and Head of Impact Engagement he leads on focused corporate engagement working closely with investment teams to drive value-enhancing outcomes that support clients’ return and impact objectives.\nPrior to joining UBS, Hans was the Managing Director and a member of the Board of EOS at Federated Hermes. EOS is a leading global provider of engagement and voting services. Before becoming Head of the EOS business, Hans was part of the firm’s European activist fund, led high-profile engagements and regional and functional teams and served as the firm’s Head of Engagement. He began his career at the international law firm Ashurst in London, where he qualified as a solicitor, after researching and teaching corporate law at the London School of Economics.\nHans is a non-executive director of Hermes Pension Trustees Limited, the legacy pension scheme of Hermes Investment Management.\nIn addition to his work in the financial services sector, Hans is affiliated with the Law School at University College London (UCL). He is the author of many articles and thought pieces on a wide range of corporate governance and sustainability topics and the co-editor of a forthcoming book on Investment Management, Stewardship and Sustainability to which he contributed a chapter on the future of stewardship.\nHans has a multi-disciplinary background in business administration, law, accounting and auditing, asset management and climate science. \nMichael Halling (moderator), Chair in Sustainable Finance at the University of Luxembourg\nMichael joined the University of Luxembourg in January 2021, as Full Professor within the Department of Finance, and moved into his current role as the Chair and coordinator of the research program in Sustainable Finance in November 2021. He holds a Ph.D. in computer science from the Vienna University of Technology and a PhD in finance from the University of Vienna. Michael’s research ranges from empirical asset pricing, asset management and business-cycle dynamics of firms’ capital structures, to sustainable finance.\n
