Financing community-based adaptation through NGOs: getting international climate finance to local communities
Since 2017 the Luxembourg government provides a funding instrument for non-state actors, notably non-governmental organizations (NGOs) additional to the ODA. To date, more than 60 community-based adaptation projects have been financed by this instrument and implemented by Luxembourg NGOs and their partners in the South. This instrument has mobilized the skills of development NGOs and the partnership networks they have built up to create an agile approach to delivering climate adaptation finance effectively to local populations.
The objectives of the side event are to foster dialogue and exchange around channeling adaptation finance directly to local actors. It will introduce the Luxembourgish efforts in promoting North-South climate cooperation between local actors and Luxembourgish NGOs and share lessons learned among NGOs, member states representatives and international organizations.
The event will involve both face-to-face and online participants. Particular attention will be paid to complementing the speakers‘ presentations by integrating the voices of local organisations and populations through live contributions.
