Conference of the Parties (COP)

The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the annual summit under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) that convenes world leaders, negotiators, civil society, and experts to address the urgent challenges of climate change.

COP30

COP30 took place from 10th to 21st November 2025 in Belém, Brazil, at the gateway to the Amazon rainforest. This edition was particularly significant, placing climate negotiations in one of the world’s most important biodiversity hotspots. The location provided a unique backdrop to elevate discussions on:

• Forest protection and restoration

• Biodiversity and indigenous stewardship

• Climate finance and nature-based solutions

• Sustainable land use, agriculture, and energy transitions

COP30 also featured a series of thematic days focused on topics such as forests, energy, social equity, sustainable cities, and multilateral cooperation — enabling more targeted dialogues and collaborative commitments.

Luxembourg’s Participation and Pavilion at COP30

For the first time, Luxembourg hosted its own Pavilion at COP30 — a milestone demonstrating the country’s ongoing commitment to international climate leadership and sustainable finance.

Hosted by the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, the Luxembourg Pavilion served as:

• A human-centered hub for exchange and collaboration

• A space to showcase national initiatives and global partnerships

• A platform to highlight Luxembourg’s contributions to international climate finance, Finance for Nature, and sustainable innovation

Guided by the theme “Let’s Make It Happen: Mutirão Meets Luxembourg”, the Pavilion bridged Luxembourg’s expertise and heritage with the energy and social fabric of the Amazon region. It brought together actors from government, finance, civil society, and the private sector to advance a just transition aligned with EU climate goals and the Paris Agreement.

Throughout COP30, the Pavilion welcomed numerous sessions, presentations, and networking events organised by Luxembourg institutions and international partners.

LSFI at COP30 – Side Event & Networking Cocktail

As part of Luxembourg’s engagement, the Luxembourg Sustainable Finance Initiative (LSFI) hosted a dedicated side event and an evening networking reception at the Luxembourg Pavilion.

From Awareness to Action: Mobilising Retail Investors for Sustainable Finance

The session opened with a keynote by Nicoletta Centofanti, CEO of LSFI, who presented the main findings of LSFI’s Working Group on Innovation & Retail Products for Sustainable Finance. The presentation highlighted:

• Opportunities to strengthen retail investor engagement

• The need for clearer, more accessible sustainable finance products

• Pathways to enhance transparency and trust in the market

A dynamic panel discussion followed, featuring insights from experts across the public, private, and financial sectors:

• Luca Torre, GAWA Capital

• Luis Felipe Bismarchi, CAIXA

• Nancy Saich, European Investment Bank

Together, panelists explored practical strategies for unlocking retail capital to support sustainability transitions, fostering innovation, and building investor confidence. The discussion emphasised the role of education, product design, and public-private collaboration.

Networking Cocktail Reception

Following the side event, LSFI welcomed participants to a networking reception that brought together Luxembourg and international sustainable finance leaders. The reception offered an opportunity for deeper exchange, new connections, and cross-regional collaboration.
